The new exhibition at Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal Archaeology and History Complex, celebrates the headdress in all its forms... abundant, colorful, surprising!
The exhibition invites the public on a fabulous journey through some 300 hats and head ornaments from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas — a true window on the diversity of the world’s cultures.
Made of aluminum for lightness as well as the necessary strength, and covered with fabric, we created “hut”-shaped cocoons to showcase the collection. Over 20 feet tall, these cocoons were first assembled and tested in our workshop, then dismantled, transported and reassembled at the museum to take their place in a themed route.
With the play of light, their shapes and textures create a place that invites discovery of the stories behind these headdresses.
